Studio Opera

Suite of tools designed for optimizing the operation of transmission-constrained power systems with a long-term horizon. Scheduling includes hydro plants and other renewables, thermal plants, price-responsive load and pipeline-constrained natural gas production. The link between natural gas and power is the fuel supply to the gas-fired power plants, which in many countries is an important component of total gas consumption.

SDDP - a software tool that has been used in more than 30 countries in the Americas, Europe and Asia Pacific for national and regional probabilistic production costing simulations, computation of locational marginal prices (LMPs), congestion analysis and estimation of greenhouse gas emissions. SDDP has also been used in over a hundred studies of investments in new generation capacity and regional interconnection for countries in South/Central America, the Balkans and Asia.

NCP - represents details of the hydroelectric systems (water balance for hydro plants in cascade, pumping, unit commitment, irrigation, tunnel deviations etc.), thermoelectric plants (unit commitment, minimum uptime and downtime, multiple fuels, efficiency curves), transmission grids (Kirchhoff laws, quadratic losses, security constraints etc.) and end-of-week terminal conditions (interface with SDDP).
NCP is used in several countries in South and Central America by Wholesale Market Administrators (to set hourly prices) and System Operators (interface with real time dispatch).

Balance - models that determines least costs instructions (power increase/decrease) that will guarantee that self-scheduled generation matches the demand in balancing markets. Balance is currently used in Turkey as the day ahead dispatch tool.
